Agenda
5G in the Verticals: How Can Enterprises Best Use 5G?
March 23, 2020 | 11:00AM-12:15PM ET
5G holds a lot of promise for the enterprise market, and various verticals including industrial, transportation, and entertainment are being looked towards as some of the most promising early 5G use cases. New technologies like private 5G networks can provide a replacement to Wi-Fi, giving enterprises enhanced security, faster speeds and lower latencies. And with edge computing, industry verticals can do much more processing on-site, without having to send data to distant clouds. But what are the technical challenges of implementing these types of solutions? How can enterprises best justify the investment? And who will enterprises ultimately want to buy these services from?

5G and AI: Increasing Intelligence and Automation in the Network
March 24, 2020 | 9:00AM-10:15AM ET
The big carriers have been working on upgrading their core networks with artificial intelligence and increased automation for several years. Some have automated the configuration of devices, the provisioning of services, and the monitoring and healing of the core network. How is this automation playing out? Has it made the network better or simply more complex to manage? And what about the radio access network (RAN)? Dynamic spectrum sharing (DSS) is an excellent example of RAN automation. But what other parts of the RAN are using AI to automate functions? This luncheon will delve in to the future of intelligent networks.

The Roadmap to Standalone (SA) 5G Deployments
March 25, 2020 | 11:30AM-12:45PM
In its Release 15, the 3GPP has defined standalone (SA) 5G, with a new radio (NR) system complemented by a next generation core network. Release 15 also covered enhancements to LTE and the Evolved Packet Core (EPC) as a way for operators to evolve to SA 5G. Where are wireless operators around the globe, at this point, in terms of their migration to SA 5G? What has been the bigger challenge, the New Radio or the core network transformations? What are the new capabilities of SA 5G? What will Release 16 bring?

Building and Managing Private Wireless Networks
March 26, 2020 | 10:00AM-11:15AM ET
The upcoming CBRS spectrum auctions in June are causing a lot of excitement about the possibilities of private LTE and 5G wireless networks. Previously, the big wireless carriers that owned spectrum dominated these kinds of private networks. But now, with clean spectrum being made available, a lot of newcomers will be able to innovate in this realm. But aside from spectrum, what will it take to build these private networks? How is the industry going to make sure these networks remain free from interference and don’t pose interference themselves? How affordable will equipment be for 3.5 GHz? And what has been learned thus far from the earliest adopters?

5G Transport: Challenges and Opportunities
March 27, 2020 | 10:00AM-11:15AM ET
A lot of press about 5G networks has focused on the radio access network (RAN) and the core network. But let’s not forget about the transport connections that glue all this together with fronthaul, midhaul and backhaul. How do technologies in these transport networks need to be upgraded to support 5G? And what are the underlying chipset capabilities needed for 5G transport? Does the 3GPP or the ITU set new standards for 5G optical transport? Aside from hardware, how will software play in 5G transport?
