Heath Morrison

Superintendent
Montgomery Independent School District

At each stage of his career, Heath Morrison has been described as "a teacher on special assignment."  Beginning as a social studies teacher in Virginia and Maryland, he quickly moved into administration, becoming principal of both a middle and high school and was selected as Maryland Principal of the Year in 2004.  He went on to serve as a Community Superintendent in Montgomery County, Maryland, before being selected to serve as Superintendent of Washoe County School District in Reno, Nevada.  He has most recently served as Superintendent of Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools in Charlotte, North Carolina.  Under his leadership, all school districts saw rapid gains in state test scores, graduation rates, and participation and performance in Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate courses. 

In 2011, Morrison was named Nevada Superintendent of the Year, and in 2012, he became AASA's National Superintendent of the Year. For the last several years he has served in the private sector, first as the Senior Vice-President of Government Affairs at McGraw- Hill Education, before quickly being promoted to President of the School Group. In this role, he has continued to impact education by delivering innovative products, tools. and solutions to improve student learning.

Howie Bender

Howie is a natural collaborator and seasoned strategic leader in education and is a firm believer in the power of education to transform lives, communities and societies. In his role as VP K-12 at D2L, he leads the K-12 segment in their efforts to help educators and schools across North America use Brightspace to deliver an excellent and inclusive education. 

Prior to his time at D2L, Howie spent close to a decade in government, was the executive director of a non-profit, and provided policy advice to senior executives in the broader public sector. He is a former Chief of Staff to different Education and Higher Education Ministers and to the Deputy Premier in Canada's largest province. He also served as the Chief of staff to Canada's first Digital Government Minister and was a member of the Digital Government Board.
